All Hands On Deck

August 9th

On August 9th all Hands were on Deck as we headed out to various nonprofit agencies around Cincinnati to help out those who give back to Cincinnati every day! Thanks to all the volunteers who came out to give back to 6 different non profit organizations in Cincinnati. Four abandoned buildings were cleaned out, three different buildings got a new coat of paint and a large amount of food was sorted - all in one afternoon! Many thanks also goes out to each of the organizations who opened their doors for us on a Saturday including Tom Geiger House, Drop Inn Center, Freestore Foodbank, Interfaith Hospitality Network, 3CDC, and Crossroad Health Center. Also, thanks to Grammer’s for their help with the after party and to Chick-fil-A for their donation of sandwiches to fill the bellies of every hard working volunteer. The event was a great success!

Save the Emery

July 26th

Over 100 volunteers showed up at this historic event! Over the course of 6 hours, our volunteers gave nearly the entire theatre a miniature facelift. Seats and aisles were vacuumed, floors were swept and mopped, door and window frames were painted, and brass handrails were polished for the first time in decades. Although it was shy of a complete renovation, by the end of the day portions of the theatre's faded glory were starting to shine again! This event has re-newed interest in getting the theatre re-opened. The mayor even stopped by and started a dialog with the board of directors about getting the theatre renovated. With a little luck, the theatre will return to operation before its 100th anniversary in 2011!

Give Back Beyond Cincinnati (GBBC)- New Orleans, Louisiana (NOLA)

July 12th - 20th

Nearly 120 volunteers spent their summer vacation with Give Back Beyond Cincinnati (GBBC) from July 12th – 20th. In GBBC's third annual trip to New Orleans, three busloads packed up, drove down to the culturally rich city, and worked with Habitat for Humanity on the post-Katrina rebuilding effort. Houses were roofed, framed, painted, and caulked; fences were installed; sand grading and landscaping was finalized; debris was removed – if it needed to be done, the GBBC volunteers stepped up to the plate and worked hard all week long! The message they received was clear – there is still much rebuilding to be done in this city filled with amazing music, cuisine, and culture. We're not forgetting about you, New Orleanians, and we'll be back next year!
